Cinemas use night goggles to nab pirates

Whoa. Off the wall. I think theater owners ought to realize they are in the ambiance business, not the movie business and let movie producers charge for home viewing new movies the day they open from home.

They should make the theaters more attractive to people who are looking for a place to go out. Let people with kids watch the new movies at home. Let old people watch the movies at home. Make the theaters like cool cafes. Then there would be little economic incentive for hand-held copying of movies.

trained ushers are strapping on the goggles and scanning darkened cinemas around the country to spot anyone trying to make illegal copies of movies with hand-held video recorders or mobile phones.
