Making Propaganda in a World of Media and Cinematography
This is a piece to listen to, rather than to read, though they do include a transcript. It comes from OntheMedia. The piece, titled "Directing Terror" is an interview with Philip Kennicott (Washington Post Culture Critic) about a new video produced by the militants called Islamic State of Iraq. The video moves from a reality scenario to include dramatizations and looks cinematic. Chilling, but something to think about.
What stories will people believe? Stories that are painstakingly reported and fact-checked, or the video version?
