Going back to school bromides
As Robert Bruce once opined, "Oh wad gift the giftee gie us, ta see ourselves as others see us." In this case, journalism teachers everywhere take heed. When you write about the "wicked bloggers" better know what you are talking about. From cyberjournalist.net, comes this cautionary tale.
The teacher wrote an op-ed criticizing bloggers for not checking facts but then went on to let his editor add some examples of blameful blogs -- but no one, editor nor writer checked out the essence of the material of the blogs in question.
This teacher gets an "F" in my gradebook and furthermore makes it into my list of anecdotes about bad journalism practices.
And, turns out Skube was not, in fact, familiar with the blog he cited as an example of the decline in patient fact-finding. After a few e-mail exchanges, Skube admitted to Marshall, "Your name was inserted late by an editor who perhaps thought I needed to cite more examples ... "Source: cyberjournalist.net
