Get News Locally, Think Globally?

Adrian Holovoty combines the talents of a web geek with the sensibilities of a newsman. How often has he said, "journalism is broken," but unlike gloom and doomers, Adrian offers simple but elegant ways to fix the news. His chicagocrime.org let's the user "view" crime stats to fit their lifestyle. Need to know if an apartment is in a safe neighborhood? Want to take a run? What route is safe? Block Clubs can see if there are crime "hot spots" within their boundaries. Now Adrian is rolling out his latest project, everyblock.com, which is all about "geotagging." Is your publication geotagging stories? It is something to consider. At creatingcommunityconnections.org, our community & citizen site, we are going to pull in everyblock feeds to complement what our reporters and citizens are writing about.

EveryBlock.com, a new Web site from Adrian Holovaty that allows you to search for news stories and other types of information by address, zip code or neighborhood, launches this afternoon. I believe this is the beginning of something big.
