Research Details the Impact of Blogs on MSM Journalism
Blogs speed up the news cycle and influence the tone and editorial direction of stories according to a survey of US journalists conducted by Brodeur.
The study notes that
“It appears that reporters are using blogs more for ethnographic research than they are for investigative research.”Source: marketingcharts.com
In my view, this demonstrates something I observe about many journalists who are in the 34+ demographic and thus are digital immigrants. By this, I mean that they are not yet participating in immersive life, where one is always connected. For many of these journalists, the blogosphere is like a museum or a zoo. It is a place to visit to see interesting, exotic anomolies.
It seems to me, that many digital natives are immersed and always connected, and that their experience of the world and blogosphere are qualitatively different than for people who "visit" but don't feel that they belong or live immersively. I'm still thinking about this, so feel free to tell me what you think about this.
