Blogging to death not an official diagnosis...so far
no official diagnosis of death by bloggingSource: nytimes.com
according to Matt Richel in the NYTimes, has been made yet. He outlines some of the hidden hazards of blogging, such as becoming immobile for hours, weight gain, and the stress of having to make money by writing thousands of short posts. Michael Arrington of TechCrunch says,
Mr. Arrington says he has gained 30 pounds in the last three years, developed a severe sleeping disorder and turned his home into an office for him and four employees. “At some point, I’ll have a nervous breakdown and be admitted to the hospital, or something else will happen.”Source: nytimes.com
The important points of the story as one who blogs sees it, is that it may not be the blogging as much as the blogger's obsessiveness that is a problem, and that "pay by the piece kind of work styles have historically led to exploitation of workers and the rise of worker unions to help regulate the pace and work conditions. Who knows what is next for bloggers.
