con't from previous post about "Finding your voice" panel

Now the audience brings up a couple of questions about the quality of writing and the fact that if you ask some reporters to blog, some actually don't know much. The subject matter that isn't well-written can still attract an audience, but there is a gut-level thing sense that writing and spelling are tied to trust and thus reputation and why someone would read the blog.

Are blogs gimmicky? No, but try out new ways of doing things. Don't be afraid to "winnow" if you aren't getting readers or doing something better.

Same voice or at least consistency across media is important. It is a matter of trust. "The only people that are worth reading, are those that know something" a younger guy says that the experienced writers and reporters produce better analysis and gets you to the meaning of the story quicker -- he is saying young people like the voice to express opinion.

A good panel.
